Question: Michal, by watching a Lupus film, one can clearly see that you and your crew do not only love spanking & punishment scenarios, but also filmmaking. Your films have grown up to become independent movies with explicit content. You seem to manage that merge of art and porn and to create an entertainment ‘on the edge’ - each film has a fresh & elaborated story and is very exciting to those who are into Corporal Punishment. So, where do you and your team get your input? How are the ideas for Lupus movies born?
Michal A. Valasek: The sources of our inspiration are very broad. Sometimes it is one photograph or drawing, which just forces you to think, “What was before and what was next?” Sometimes we get inspiration from history, especially from the not so happy moments of it. Sometimes we just feel the urge to shoot the “missing scene” from some other movie or story, where we just know that the spanking should be and it was not.
Our intention is to be “one step beyond” the ordinary moviemaking. We do not cut, pan, or shadow play where mainstream movies do.
Question: What are your artistic inspirations? Are there any influences from literature and film? Any idols?
Michal A. Valasek: Lot of our movies is specific kind of tribute, for example to some old and classical Czech movies. We have other sources of inspiration as well. For example, the movie “The Master Executioner” was heavily inspired by drawings of Neprakta, famous Czech cartoonist. His drawings often include bare bottoms, canes, whips and executioners. His specific brisk humor influenced several generations. Lot of us remembers that it was Neprakta’s jokes who allowed us to discover our fascination by spanking.
Question: How do you find all those marvelous actors and actresses? Lupus lupum cognoscit?
Michal A. Valasek: A wolf knows a wolf, yes! Significant part of our cast is our friends, mates, acquaintances, friends of friends and so on. We are friendly pack, so people who are shooting with us are usually returning, and often their friends come with them.
Question: Some of your films (e.g. ‘The Magic Purse’) would be perfect for stage play. Probably not suitable for regular representation (the poor girls’ bottoms!), but just imagine performing in a small theatre in Prague… for me it would definitely be worth a journey! The dramatic structures of your movies are evident - do some of your actors and crewmembers come from the theatre?
Michal A. Valasek: Our director is originally stage director and some cast members have theatrical background as well. In addition, our limited audience and financial sources makes us to shoot our movies more like theatrical plays or TV shows, rather than Hollywood style.
We think that performing live in theatre would be… maybe too much brave for us now. It is also lot harder to perform live without the chance of second take.
Question: You know both comedy and tragedy: there are the films where comedy structures are predominant (e.g. the Headmaster films & the Fairy Tales) and those with a very dark & frightening undertone like all the Czechoslovak 50’s films whose scenarios can hardly be described other than inhuman regime torture - even if you’re treating that topic very ironically… Eroticism faces terror. That pain and pleasure can sometimes collide is clear, the question is: do you see a connection between totalitarian systems and the basic human sexual drive?
Michal A. Valasek: There is clear connection between power and sexuality, especially when we are talking about dominance, submission, sadism and masochism. When people are in position of power, near to absolute, and are not properly supervised, violence naturally occurs – and more often than not, sexual motives are present. We can see it in famous Zimbardo’s Stanford prison experiment, the recent Abu Ghraib scandal in Iraq and thousands of cases across entire history of mankind.
I live in a country, which was under rule of totalitarian regimes for bigger part of its existence. I live in country, where confidents of the former communistic secret police are still in positions of political or economical power, eighteen years after the “velvet revolution”. I live in a country, where 61% of citizens wish for a “strong arm” to rule, according to recent survey. I live in a country, where vice-chairman of the Parliament publicly speaks about that we must return to Lenin. I live in a country, where inspiration for stories of abused power comes easier than I would like it to.
Question: Due to their historical & political themes, Lupus films have an explosive nature. One could criticize that you are glorifying violence and dictatorship, but perhaps the opposite is true. It is proven a thousand times throughout history that a big part of the human nature is destructive - but if you shift those destructive tendencies into an erotic context, isn’t it questioning the actual political & social violence? Or, more simply asked, isn’t violence as a dramatic (and above all: erotic) play completely opposite to actual violence?
Michal A. Valasek: The evil is charming in fantasy and disgusting in reality. That is the difference between world of imagination and the real one. If we dream about violence, it does not mean that we want to be violent in real life and yes, usually it is the complete opposite. It is nothing wrong about any fantasies.
We are not glorifying violence or dictatorship. We portray the “bad guys” as person of power, of course, but not as a moral example. They must be bad to play in our fantasies, but that makes them unfit for the real life.
I hope that our movies would entertain the spectators at first, but also that they would make them think afterwards.
Question: Though the spankings in Lupus movies are a lot harder than those from most other companies, your films seem to have a big appeal to women. Girls I know are generally rather bored by spanking & BDSM videos, but they’re always asking me for Lupus movies. OK, there’s an interesting plot, there’s something to think about, a lot to laugh, a lot of excitement… but what’s that special ingredient that makes girls so keen to watch your films?
Michal A. Valasek: Well, go and ask them!
Nevertheless, my tip is that we do not concentrate only on the mechanic of spanking, unlike our competitors. Most of “spanking videos” is about that two people come to one room, spank each other and go away. We are trying (of course in constraints of our financial sources and audience) to go further and say what happened before, what happened after and why all that.
In my opinion, the context matters.
Question: This question will probably make me very unpopular for a big part of your male audience, but I’ll ask it nevertheless: Have you ever thought about thrashing a boy’s bottom for a Lupus film? What about punishing a young guy together with a girl in one of your stories? Some of my female friends would surely appreciate…
Michal A. Valasek: I bet, but we are not sure how the majority of our customers would appreciate it. I would be perfectly comfortable with it, but I am not so sure with rest of the team.
However – never say never.
Question: Last question: Who is cooking all those tasty meals? I’m getting hungry just by thinking of that wonderful chicken in ‘The Family Silver’…
Michal A. Valasek: Ugh, do not remind me that movie. After full day of shooting, and I am not doing almost anything else than eating the ducks (four of them if I remember correctly) I could not see anything poultry for weeks!
Generally, most of the ‘tasty meals’ are inedible props. What is edible we buy from local shops, Czech cuisine is famous!

An idea for the future if you wish to use it. A female judge who has previously stood in judgement on a criminal is abducted by him and takes out his grievances on her bottom and thighs. I could just imagine the judge, who lets it be know that she hates men, passing a cruel sentence, only to find herself the subject of punishment.

I love theese “Head-Master” films with the victims tied to the special chair for getting their naked asses in good position for the cane and also alowing a good view of their nice labias and asshole. It is amazing how different a girls ass-hole can look like.

Spanking films are a kind of sex film. I would like to see more than 50 strokes with a cane. It is boring to watch the same again and again. Lupus and zfx are the only companies that tried to make something better. Films like “too many fathers” are in the right direction. I would prefer more sex in these films (spread butts, force to do sex, humiliation). The actor’s emotions her fear on her face, usualy are better from the strokes. The way they are standing and moving are also very important. Every move of the girls must be sexy and female. Some girls have the gift…. Use them in sex films.

Dear Michal, I enjoy your productions, because they have more professional quality than most other spanking videos. I have been a producer myself but made more the Hollywood type of films. I remember only one spanking scene in my TV series “The Good Soldier Schwejk”, when Tshech prisoners are birched in a Russian camp.
My favorite of your films is the Christmas story, when the girls are chastised by the father and given enemas afterwards by the mother.
Could there not be a stable boy in the house, who also needs a caning ?
How about a story which I have experienced myself (long ago). I (13) was staying with a friend and his sisters (12 and 15). I have one single problem with these films: the girls do not have pubes. Or a bit, perhaps. But an age ago (the Christmas Quiet), in the thirties (lots of films) and the fifties (the amazing CSSR-movies) girls had woods of pubes.
